Refreshing Treat: Homemade Fresh Fruit Pops

homemade fresh fruit pops

The other day I was stuck with some fresh fruit that I needed to do something with. At first I was thinking about strawberry baked chips, but I decided to save that for later. It has been hot lately, and I wanted something refreshing, yet not store bought (I’ll pass on all that sugar).

For a while now, I have been thinking about buying a Zoku popsicle maker… solely because it is one of the coolest things around. Yet instead of paying $40 for that bad boy, I decided to head to my local 99 cent store on the search for plastic popsicle holders. Guess what? I found them. Anyways, these popsicles ended up to be extremely delicious and actually disappeared rather quickly. Looks like these will be an all summer long staple in my household…

What’s your favorite summer sweet treat?

homemade fresh fruit popsicles

How to make these easy popsicles:

  1. Pre-slice your fruit, I used strawberry & kiwi, but you can pick your favorites.
  2. Using organic lemonade, pour it into your molds half way only.
  3. Add some of the fruit to the lemonade. Put it in the freezer for a couple hours.
  4. Once that first layer is frozen, add a second layer of lemonade with fruit. I did this cause I didn’t want all the fruit to sink to the bottom.
  5. Let freeze overnight, and enjoy them the next day. You can even eat them with breakfast!

Your Complete Summer Fashion Checklist!

summer 2012 fashion

Summer is almost here, and the sun is already shining… brightly. This past weekend was so beautiful, so much so that I actually laid out the whole entire day. When my roommate told me this weekend was going to be even warmer, I was beyond excited to spend my weekend working on my Vegas tan & relaxing on the beach. All this heat got me thinking, I really need to start prepping for the next couple months!! I have decided to put together a little summer must have list for all of you guys!

Summer 2012 Fashion Trends

From left to right (sort of…)

  • First & foremost, please wear sunscreen this summer, everywhere. For all of you tan-addicts, did you know that sunscreen only SCREENS a burn… sunblock is the one that actually BLOCKS all color. That being said, wearing sunscreen will still give you that epic tan you are looking for. Look for one that is chemical and BPA free though, like the daylight defense from Julep.
  • Summer shades are always so fun to shop for. This summer I am really feeling white shades, such as the ones I am wearing above. Stella McCartney also makes a great pair of ivory sunnies that I have on my wish-list.
  • Cute bikini’s are a must. Stock up on 2 or three this summer, just to make sure you have enough options! Fringe is in, which is why I love this tangerine fringe bikini from Miss Selfridge. I also scored an adorable bikini from Soriya- they have some pretty cute suits with cheeky bottoms (my favorite).
  • Put together a summer book list. I always have a list of books I want to read during the summer. Magazines are a snooze and way to expensive… why buy one of those when you can spend a couple more bucks for a bestseller novel. I don’t know, that’s just my opinion. I love to read, so much so that I actually started a summer book club… first book: The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac.
  • Maxi dresses are my go to during the summertime. They are comfortable and are easy to pull off without looking like you are trying too hard. Not to mention they keep you cool during the hot summer days. The neon yellow maxi seen above is absolutely to-die-for.
  • Cute towels always make the beach/pool that much more fun, right? Atleast for me they do! I love this adorable beach towel from Target, especially since I am a blogger… but you already knew that. Atleast I hope so.
  • Hats are a great summer staple, not only because they are extremely adorable, yet they keep the sun out of your face- which further prevents wrinkles. I am personally loving trilby hats (like this one) for summer 2012… I am pretty much over the wide brimmed ones as they got played out too fast.
  • Grab yourself some new sandies!!! Get yourself a fun, yet basic, pair of strappy sandals to rock all summer long. Last year I got silver, this year I think I am feeling black sandals… what color sandals are you pining for?

Update + the Perks of my Fabulous Job!

Julep Nail Polish

( Colors used: Natasha, Stella, Parker, Blake, Oscar )

I haven’t given a solid update on my life in while, so I figured now is as good a time as any. If you recall, a couple months back, I was laid off from my desk job. This actually ended up being a huge blessing in disguise for me. I ended up scoring a gig doing blog writing for Julep, a fabulous & fun nail polish company. I get to spend my day working from the comfort of my home (usually outside in the sun) writing & being creative. I write about various topics ranging from DIY projects, hot fashion trends, must have products, and more. I am especially excited right now because one of my bosses just told me they will flying me out to Seattle in June to visit the offices & meet everyone- so amazing! I can’t wait for what is to come… and wanted to tell you all about it.

One of the best things about my job has got to be the perks, which come in the form of nail polish! This is great considering I am obsessed with painting my nails, but you know that already. Here is my latest Julep mani, ombre sparkles :)

DIY ✂ Skeleton Shredded Tee

Years ago I was working in a clothing boutique, it was my first real job in the world of fashion. I learned many many things at this job, including: how to merchandise a clothing store, how to sell a garment, and how to deconstruct a simple tee. For some reason, this little t-shirt trick my manager taught me stuck with me, and now I figured I would share with you how it is done. It is simple and will turn any old t-shirt into a fabulous fashion statement that will be sure to turn heads.

Get the Look: Zoo Chic

Friday was my friend, Greg’s, bday and we decided to celebrate by heading to the San Diego Zoo. It may be one of my personal favorite places to go in San Diego because I am 100% obsessed with all types of monkeys. I was the only girl in attendance with 9 boys, and I couldn’t have had more fun. I just got this fabulous dress in the mail from GoJane!, and it was a perfect time for it to make it’s debut. Zoo chic.

DIY Galaxy Nails

Galaxy Nails

Everyone who knows me knows that I am borderline obsessed with galaxy prints, it is no secret. I have been dying to have some of my very own galaxy print nails, but kept putting it off, as I thought it would be way past my artistic abilities. I finally sucked it up and decided to give it a try… and guess what? It was a breeze! Actually, it is ideal for the less artistic of individuals, because even a slip up looks good. Here is the step by step on how I did it, hope you enjoy & please share your galaxy mani’s on the Fashionlushxx facebook.

  • Prep: Gather your supplies. I used Julep polishes MaggieGwenAmyBrigitte, and Vanessa. You will also need nail polish remover, a q-tip, and either a make-up sponge or a small piece of a kitchen sponge. To start prep your nails as you would for any manicure (file, clean, and apply base coat).
  • Step 1: Paint your nails using your base color. The color I used was called Maggie, a navy/purple color with tiny pieces of glitter.
  • Step 2 & 3: Paint your first cosmic color, mine was Gwen (dark red), onto a small piece of your sponge. Sponge that color over your dry base color in random places. Repeat this step with your second color (I used Amy, a teal/blue), and white your white. When you get to the white, don’t worry if you add too much, just go over it with another one of your darker shades. Also, don’t worry about the mess on your skin, you will clean that up at the end.
  • Step 4: Using either an art brush, or a toothpick, you now need to add your stars. Simply add random dots of white to various spots on your nails. I just did 5 stars, but you can add as many or as little as you want.
  • Step 5: Paint a coat of a clear sparkly polished (such as Vanessa) to add a little sparkle to your mini galaxies.
  • Finally: Using a Q-tip & acetone, clean things up a bit around your nails. Once that’s taken care of, throw on some top coat, and go show off your fabulous mani.

How to Fit Back into Your Daisy Dukes for Summer

Lauryn Evarts The Skinny Confidential

I would love to introduce all of you to fitness maven & skinnista, Lauryn Evarts. She runs a fabulous blog, The Skinny Confidential, which you will learn more about in a minute. This fabulous lady knows all the tips and tricks to get you looking & feeling great for summer. Being in shape not only makes your clothes look better, but it makes you feel better… and nothing is more fashionable than confidence.

The Skinny Confidential Lauryn Evarts

Heyyyyy Fashionistas! I am Lauryn over at The Skinny Confidential, a blog based upon skinny tips to help you lose weight in an easy, attainable way. When Erica asked to me to guest post on FashionLushxx, I immediately thought about Summer 2012. It’s definitely going to entail short shorts, lots of itty bitty bikinis, and crop tops. I know Erica has all the fab fashion looks for your summer finds, so let’s talk about how to feel confident in them:

Summer 2012: Skinny Tips & Tricks to Keep you Feeling Tight & Toned:

  • If you’ve been lacking at the gym, step it up. Time spent worrying about how your bikini is going to look on, could be spent constructively by sweating it out. Thirty minutes to an hour is all I am asking. Kick it up a notch.
  •  Start downing water like it’s your second job. I know, I know. You hear this all the time. But actually DO it. Drink your body weight in ounces every day and you will not believe how full and satisfied you’ll feel.
  • Natural diuretics: dilemma: so it’s July 3rd, and you’re supposed to be in tip top shape for July 4th’s festivities. Quick fix: a natural diuretic- it is a quick way to eliminate bloat. You’ll drop at least five pounds of water weight. I recommend this lemon diuretic.
  • Cut alcohol & other sweetened grossness: three days before you’re bikini-bound, cut out all that sugary crap & alcohol. Oh, and do yourself a favor and don’t ever drink soda again- it’s full of chemicals & adds belly fat.
  • Do a 3-Day Cleanse: I love cleansing because after the three days, any bloat is long gone, you feel energized and refreshed, & it completely kickstarts healthy habits.

For skinny recipes, fresh cocktails, and economical workouts, head over to my blog, The Skinny Confidential. In the meantime, start prepping for those daisy dukes

Happy summer ladies!

DIY Fringe Pocket Shorts

Fringe Shorts

Ever since I saw one of my favorite fellow bloggers, Cheyenne Meets Chanel, rock some fabulous fringe pocket shorts- I was immediately inspired. I headed straight to the fabric store to grab some fringe trim (they even had ombre dyed) and pulled out my sewing supplies. These are super easy to do… basically if you can hand sew, you can make these too…
